Kenn Hetzel was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1948 and attended Maple Heights High School. Taking art for three years and drafting for four both subjects strengthened my ability to see 3-dimensionally eventually leading to my interest in sculpture. After graduation in 1966, Hetzel began a career in retail display with Sears & Amp; Roebuck, and became a display manager for JCPenney by 1979 which lasted until Hetzel suffered an on-the-job injury forcing him to change careers. Hetzel graduated from Kent State University with a B.A. in Art Education in 1995, a B.F.A. in Studio Art, sub major sculpture in 1996, and a Masters in Sculpture in 2004. From 1998 to 2015 Hetzel oversaw the three-dimensional program at Chagrin Falls High School, Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
Over the years Hetzel’s work and approach to sculpture has evolved to the point that he does not limit himself to the use of one material, though wood and stone are his primary mediums. Hetzel’s work has been exhibited at the Mansfield Art Center, Mansfield. OH, Rosewood Art Center, Kettering.
